OUR GENERAL DENTISTRY SERVICES

Routine cleanings, exams, and preventive care that keep problems from becoming bigger issues down the road

Cleanings

Dr. Perez has the experience and training to perform many complex dental services in-house. At the center of any clinical success, though, is the general health of the teeth and gums. This is the foundation we carefully examine, maintain, and treat during every general exam and cleaning.

An oral hygiene visit at our office is much more than a simple spray and rinse. We take pride in thoroughly removing the bacterial buildup that accumulates in the mouth between visits. We also carefully examine the health of the gums and bone surrounding your teeth to make sure your at-home care will be effective.

Last, but certainly not least, we perform an oral cancer screening as part of our general dental services. While oral cancer isn’t especially common, we take the extra time to rule out its presence.

Restorations (Fillings & Crowns)

Even with a solid foundation, teeth can sometimes develop new or recurring decay. We carefully check suspicious spots on teeth and around existing fillings.

Depending on the presence and extent of decay, treatment may be needed. When caught early, most cavities can be prepared and filled with a restorative material before any further damage occurs, which is why early detection is a priority for us.

If you do need restorative work, rest assured that Dr. Perez will take the time to explain the situation and the treatment needed, with your comfort in mind. We’re proud of our refined anesthetic injection technique, which greatly reduces the discomfort of the shot.

Extractions

Although we like to think of ourselves as being in the tooth-saving business, there are times when a tooth must be removed. This can be due to the extent of a cavity, the presence of a crack, or the loss of bone surrounding a tooth. Some teeth can also be positioned in a way that makes good oral hygiene nearly impossible, including unerupted and partially erupted wisdom teeth.

No matter your individual needs, Dr. Perez has extensive experience with both simple and complex surgical extractions. He also maintains relationships with trusted specialists in the area and will, when needed, rely on their expertise for more complicated cases. In summary, we prioritize making the process of losing a tooth, or teeth, as painless as possible.

root canals

An angry tooth is a painful tooth. The pulp of a tooth is the soft tissue at its very center, filled with blood vessels and nerves. There are times when these structures become irritated by trauma and/or decay. Once this happens, the body’s inflammatory response rushes in, trying to remedy the problem.

Unfortunately, the resulting swelling causes further damage to these sensitive tissues. The result is what we refer to as a “hot tooth.” The pain caused by this process is very real and often sporadic, it can be triggered by temperature changes (usually hot foods or liquids) or by biting pressure. If left alone, these teeth will often start to feel better for a short time. This happens because the nerve inside has died. Unfortunately, the relief is only temporary, the next phase involves a buildup of dead tissue and dead inflammatory cells, forming an abscess around the tip of the tooth. If left untreated, the resulting pus can tunnel through the bone and gum and drain into the mouth.

Dr. Perez has performed hundreds of root canals and is highly experienced in diagnosing and treating these symptoms. Our injection technique, combined with our genuine concern for your comfort, ensures we get you out of pain with as little discomfort as possible.

emergency care

At Thoroughgood Dental, we understand the unpredictable nature of pain and discomfort. Teeth that never before gave any sign of needing treatment can quickly become a real problem. For this reason, we always make it a priority to accommodate emergency visits.

We also respond promptly to voicemails. No matter your particular need, you can count on our genuine concern for your well-being to come through. Whether the issue can be resolved with a simple adjustment or requires a root canal, we put your comfort first.
